What is Alcohol Ink Art?

Alcohol Ink Art is a relatively new medium. It’s made using fluid alcohol inks (very pigmented alcohol-based inks) applied to a nonporous surface.

All about the process

With the addition of more Isopropyl, and with the help of a blow dryer, the inks are pushed around, the alcohol evaporates quickly and the dyes dry forming unique shapes.

The composition can be reworked if more alcohol is poured since it dissolves the dried inks. This process can be done days, months, and even years after the inks are dried.

This dye-based inks are translucent and it shows what is underneath so depending on the material painted the results are different. Manly, I use synthetic paper, Aluminium sheets, ceramic, LMDF boards, and plexiglass.

Why alcohol inks are so unique

It is impossible to recreate the same artwork because Alcohol inks are made by using fluid inks. The same colors and style can be used, but the way the inks dry makes the piece unique and original.

“Nature has always been a source of inspiration for me, a wavy ocean, a sunset sky, flowers, and trees all inspire me to use movement in my work.”
